The Margin Read.
Where your money really goes.

Short explainers on how familiar companies actually make money, built from their public filings and read with a CFO's eye.

The channel

The Margin Read publishes YouTube Shorts that take one surprising number from a company's annual report, quarterly filing or earnings release and explain what it means for the people who buy from that company: where a restaurant dollar goes, which part of a business actually earns the profit, what a ride-hailing app keeps from each fare.

The Margin Read Publisher

The Margin Read Publisher is a private desktop application that the channel's owner runs on his own computer to manage The Margin Read's YouTube channel. It is not offered to the public, and no one else signs in to it.

What it does with your Google account

When the channel owner signs in with Google and grants access, the application:

  • uploads finished videos to The Margin Read channel, schedules when they go public, and can cancel a future scheduled publication;
  • confirms that it is connected to the approved channel before uploading anything;
  • reads view counts and other YouTube Analytics figures for the channel's own videos, to measure how they perform.

It does not delete videos, change channel or account settings, read comment text, or access any other Google service. Full details are in the Privacy Policy.

The application is built on the YouTube API Services. Using it is subject to the YouTube Terms of Service and the Google Privacy Policy.
